Tolivar Angus

Breeding Objectives
At Tolivar Angus, our breeding philosophy centres on balanced, commercially relevant genetics that combine calving ease, fertility, growth, carcase quality and maternal strength without compromising structural integrity, temperament or longevity.
Our objective is to produce fertile, functional and profitable Angus cattle that perform in the paddock and deliver for commercial producers. We place strong emphasis on structural soundness, fertility, temperament, doing ability, growth and carcase performance, while maintaining the maternal strength and longevity required to build productive, sustainable cow herds.
Our breeding decisions are driven by a combination of performance data, EBVs, genomics, phenotype and generations of proven cow families. Every animal is assessed on its ability to contribute to a balanced breeding program rather than simply excelling in one individual trait. We select cattle that can grow efficiently, maintain condition and perform under commercial conditions, while producing calves with the weight, carcase merit and consistency demanded throughout the beef supply chain.
Genomics and comprehensive performance recording are fundamental to our breeding program. Together, they improve the accuracy of Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs), particularly for economically important traits such as fertility, longevity and structural soundness.
By identifying superior genetics earlier in life, we continue to accelerate genetic progress while providing our clients greater confidence in the genetics they purchse. Every animal in the Tolivar Angus stud is genomically tested, Parent Verified and performance recorded, providing complete confidence in the integrity and accuracy of the genetics behind every bull we offer.
We utilise BREEDPLAN, artificial insemination (AI), embryo transfer (ET) and advanced reproductive technologies to continually access, identify and multiply superior genetics. These tools are used within a disciplined selection program, ensuring genetic progress is achieved without compromising the functional traits that underpin a productive commercial herd.
Genetic Progress
The 5 year genetic progress EBVs of all Tolivar seedstock calves, relative to calves in other Angus seedstock enterprises between 2020-2025.

Integrity is fundamental to our breeding program. Our entire herd has been tested for Pestivirus, with no Persistently Infected (PI) animals identified. We maintain a comprehensive Pestivirus vaccination program, and all newly purchased animals are tested on arrival and quarantined until a negative test result is confirmed.
For us, breeding is about more than producing a good-looking bull. It is about building better cattle, making measurable genetic progress and delivering genetics that work commercially.
Our ultimate goal is simple: Tolivar Angus genetics that provide predictability, performance and profitability for generations to come.
